Ballad of the skeletons

Irwin Allen Ginsberg (June 3, 1926 – April 5, 1997) was an American poet. Ginsberg is best known for the poem “Howl ” (1956), celebrating his friends who were members of the Beat Generation and attacking what he saw as the destructive forces of materialism and conformity in the United States. This ballad of the skeletons is, in my opinion, the best piece of poetry to criticize America and its habits and political position. Besides, there is Paul McCartney!

All nation has its own skeletons. Americans have theirs we have ours. But we must take our skeletons out of our closets and deal with them, unsdersting and subduing them. As brazilians, our skeleton is our culture of “poor me”. We are never happy with what we achieve because it is in our blood to think that the grass abroad is always greener than our grass. We must start to say and believe (and I’m going to borrow Obama’s slogan) Yes We Can!
